shell stitch: 7 dc into one st

V-stitch: (dc, ch 1, dc) in same st

General Note: The first stitch of a rd is a standing stitch, unless otherwise stated. If you don't feel comfortable with standing stitches, you can slst and work ch stitches instead of the first st (ch 1 for sc, ch 2 for hdc, ch 3 for dc, ch 4 for tr).

Pattern:

Begin with ch 6, slst to close circle

Round 1

Ch 3 (replaces first dc), ch 2, (dc, ch 2) x7. Slst to third ch. Don’t fo. [8 dc, 8 ch-2 in total]
Adrienne

Round 2

Slst to next ch-sp, (front post puff around dc, ch 1) x8. Slst to first front post puff, fo. [8 front post puffs, 8 ch-1 in total]
Adrienne

Round 3

Start in any ch-sp: (hdc, ch 1, hdc into ch-sp, fpdc around puff) x8. Slst to join, don’t fo. (16 hdc, 8 ch-1, 8 fpdc)
Deborah

Round 4

Work only in indicated st, sk all other st: slst to next ch-1, ch 3 (replaces first dc), 4 dc into same sp, fpsc around fpdc, (5 dc into next ch-1 sp, fpsc around fpdc) x7. Slst to join, fo. [8 petals, 8 fpsc in total]

Deborah

Round 5

Start with a standing st around the first dc of a petal: (5 bpdc, ch 3, sk 1 st) ×8. Slst to first bpdc, fo. [40 bpdc, 8 ch-3 in total]
Anne

Round 6

Start with a standing st in first bpdc of a 5 bpdc group: (5 blsc in rd 5 bpdc, 3 fptr around rd 4 fpsc [keep rd 5 ch-3 behind your work]) x8. Slst to first bpsc, fo. [40 blsc, 24 fptr in total]
Threas

Round 7

Note: We recommend you work the slip stitches loosely as you will be working into them in the next rd. You could make bouquets a different colour from shells by chaining 3 behind 3 fptrs, Or bp slst in fptrs for a little ribbon effect under bouquets with shell colour, then come back in with another colour and add flowers and chaining 5 behind shells.

Start in any third sc of a 5 sc group: (shell stitch, bouquet, slst into next 5 sc, bouquet) x4. Slst to first dc, fo. [4 shells, 8 bouquets, 20 slst in total]
Threas

Round 8

With wrong side facing. Consider placing stitch markers in the 2 sc in each rd 7 bouquet to make this rd easier.

Start in the first dc of a shell: (sc, ch 4, sk 5 dc, sc in next st [should be last dc of shell], 4 dc in first sc below picots. 4 dc in second sc below picots, sk slst in last fptr, sc in next slst, sk one slst, sc in next two slst, sk one slst, sc in next slst. 4 dc in first sc behind picots, 4 dc in second sc behind picots) x4. Slst to beginning sc. fo. Make sure to pull picots to the right side at the end (or as you go).  [64 dc, 24 sc, 4 ch-4 in total]
Katrina

Round 9

With Right side facing:

Start in a sc before a ch-sp: (dc in sc, 2 dc in ch-4, sc in 4th dc of rd 7 shell, back to rd 8: 2 dc in same ch-4, dc in sc, ch 3, sc between the 4th and 5th dc of rd 8, ch 2, sk 4 st, tr, 2 dtr in next stitch, ch 2, 2 dtr in next stitch, tr, ch 2, sc between 4th and 5th dc of rd 8, ch 3, sk 4 st) x4. Slst to beginning dc. fo. [16 dtr, 8 tr, 28 dc, 12 sc, 12 ch-2, 8 ch-3 in total]
Katrina

Round 10
Start in any corner: {(2dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into corner ch-2, fpdc around next 3 st, tr into 3rd dc of rd 8 4 dc group (in front of rd 9), back to rd 9: ch 1, sk ch-2 sp, hdc into sc, 3 hdc into ch-3 sp, sc into next 2 dc, ch 1, sk 1 st, front post puff around sc, ch 1, sk 1 st, sc into next 2 dc, 3 hdc into ch-3 sp, hdc into sc, ch 1, now to rd 8: tr into 2nd dc of rd 8 4dc group (in front of rd 9), back to rd 9: sk ch-2 sp, fpdc around next 3 st}×4. Slst to first dc, fo.  [Per side: 4 dc, 6 fpdc, 2 tr, 4 ch-1, 8 hdc, 4 sc, 1 front post puff]
Sandra

Round 11
Note: All stitches worked into rd 8 and 9 will be in front of rd 10. The dc2tog will outline and lift the rd 10 puff. When forming this stitch try not to cover the puff as you stitch the second leg. It goes very tightly around the sides of the puff. If you find this too tricky, you can substitute dc2tr tog, but your puff won’t stand out quite so perkily. When stitching around the rd 9 dtrs, just work below the rd 10 stitches already there.

Start in a corner ch-2 with a standing st. {(hdc, ch 1, hdc), 3 fptr around 1st rd 9 dtr, sk 3 st, hdc in each of next 2 st, V in rd 9 ch-sp below worked between rd 10 tr and rd 10 hdc, sk 3 rd 10 st (will be tr, ch-1, hdc), sc in each of next 5 st, dc2 tog in rd 8 ch-sp below and either side of puff (one leg either side of sc), sk 3 rd 10 st (should be ch-1, puff, ch-1), sc in each of next 5 st, V in rd 9 ch below worked between rd 10 hdc and rd 10 tr, sk 3 rd 10 st, (should be hdc, ch-1, tr) , hdc in each of next 2 st, 3 fptr around last rd 9 dtr, sk 3 rd 10 st} x4, sl st to 1st hdc to join. fo. You will need to winkle the puff out from the dc2 tog. Once you do this it will stand out beautifully. [Per side: 6 fptr, 2 V, 1 dc2tog, 6 hdc, 10 sc. 29 sts plus corner ch-1]
Lettice

Round 12
Start in any corner {(3dc cluster, ch 2, dc, ch 2, 3dc cluster), ch 1, sk first 2 stitches, V in middle fptr from previous rd, ch 1, sk 1 st, 2 hdc, ch 1, sk 1 st (should be first leg of V), popcorn around ch of V, ch 1, sk 1 st (should be second leg of V), 5 bphdc, 1 fphdc, 5 bphdc, ch 1, sk 1 st (should be first leg of V), popcorn around ch of V, ch 1, sk 1 st (should be second leg of V), 2 hdc, ch 1, sk 1 st, V in middle fptr from previous rd, ch 1, sk last 2 stitches} x4, sl st to 3 dc cluster to join, fo. [Per side: 2 3dc cluster, 8 ch-1, 2 V, 2 popcorn, 10 bphdc, 4 hdc, 1 fpdc. 33 sts plus corner dc/ ch-2]
Ellen

Round 13

Start in any corner dc: (tr into corner dc, ch 1, popcorn into the ch-2 sp, fphdc around cluster, V in ch-1 sp, popcorn in ch-sp of V, 2 dc in ch-1 sp, bpdc around each of next 2 st, sk ch-1 sp, fphdc around popcorn, sk ch-1 sp, bpdc around each of next 5 st, fpdc around next st, bpdc around each of next 5 st, sk ch-1 sp, fphdc around popcorn, sk ch-1 sp, bpdc around each of next 2 st, 2 dc in ch-1 sp, popcorn in ch-sp of V, V in ch-1 sp, fphdc around cluster, popcorn into ch-2 sp, ch 1) x4, slst to 1st tr to join. fo. [Per side: 2 ch-1, 4 popcorn, 2 V, 4 dc, 14 bpdc, 4 fphdc, 1 fpdc. 4 corner tr. 35 sts]
Anne

Round 14 (For size this rd can be hdc or dc)

Start in any corner tr: {(fpsc, ch 2, fpsc around same corner tr) = corner, sc in ch-sp, fpsc around popcorn, sc in next st, sc in first leg, in ch-1, and in second leg of V, fphdc around popcorn, hdc in next 21 stitches, fphdc around popcorn, sc in first leg, in ch-1, and in second leg of V, sc in next st, fpsc around popcorn, sc in ch-sp} x4. Slst to first fpsc, fo. [4 fpsc, 10 sc, 2 fphdc, 21 hdc plus corner ch-2. 37 sts per side]
Jo

Round 15 (For size this rd can be hdc or dc)

Start in any corner ch-sp: {(Sc, ch 2, sc) in corner ch-2 sp, (sc into back loop and third loop together) x 37. (This can be back loop only if you wish but using the two loops adds strength to the rd) } x4, slst into first sc to join. [39 sc per side, ch-2 corners]
Jo
