Winter Wreath - Poinsettia and Hellebores
Lots of experimenting has been going on for additional embellishments for the wreath. The main reason being that patterns available to me do not always fit with the scale of my (smaller) rings.
The holly leaves from Attic 24 are just about right, both in size and colour (Stylecraft Special DK - Bottle).
The hellebores from 100 Flowers to Knit and Crochet were a bit on the large size, and Iām not totally convinced by my choice of petal colour. I was also struggling to find the perfect poinsetta, so making up my own seemed to be the way to go.
For anyone following along, these are my new smaller flowers, using DK weight yarn and a 3mm hook:
Mini Poinsettia
With yellow yarn, work 6 sc into magic circle. Pull magic circle tight.
Rnd 2 - Join red yarn with sl st to any st. *Ch 8, turn and sk 3 sts. Working into chain, sc, hdc, 3 dc, sl st into next yellow st*. Repeat from * to * 5 more times. Fasten off.
Mini Hellebore (Christmas Rose)
With yellow yarn, make a magic circle or starting loop of 4 ch sts.
Rnd 1 - * sc, ch1*, repeat from * to * 4 more times. Join to 1st st.
Rnd 2 - sl st into ch-sp, * sc, ch2, sc in same ch-sp *, repeat from * to * 4 more times. Join to 1st st. Fasten off.
Rnd 3 - working in the ch2-sp, join white yarn with sc. *dc, 2tr, dc, sc all in same ch-sp, sc in next ch-sp*, repeat from * to * 4 more times, omitting final sc. Join to 1st st. Fasten off.
Rnd 4 - rather than working into stitches, place your hook in the gap between the stitches. Join pale green yarn with sc between sc and dc at start of petal. *hdc between dc and tr, (hdc, ch, hdc) between tr sts, hdc, between tr and dc, sc between dc and sc, dc into gap between 2 sc on round 2, sc between sc and dc*, repeat from * to * 4 more times, omitting final sc. Join to 1st st. Fasten off.
